DIY: Cannabis-Infused Kiva Bar Hot Chocolate

Whether you are hanging with family, partying with friends, caroling with neighbors, or just simply chilling at home with your favorite furry friend, there is always one-holiday delight that is perfect for any occasion and can be made anytime. We are talking hot cocoa here, people!

Hot chocolate is shared across the world with origins that can be traced back to the Olmec, Mayan, and Aztec cultures of Mexico and Central America. It started as a raw cacao bean drink that was historically known to have been served cold with water. Once the Spaniards came to the region and the cacao bean made its way to Europe, it went through a few transformations that ultimately led to the sweet, milk-frothed hot chocolate that we all know and love today.

With that being said, we are cannabis-friendly…so, we decided to take things a step further. Spiking our hot chocolate with edibles might have been the best idea we had all year (should have thought of it sooner, to be honest). We hope you think so too!

Ingredients

1 Kiva Dark Chocolate Bar

Tablespoon of Brown Sugar

1 cup of Whole Milk (or substitute)

Pinch of salt

Splash of Vanilla Extract – Optional

Directions

1) Combine milk, salt, and sugar in a small pan and place on the stovetop over medium heat.

2) While the milk is heating, place the chopped chocolate in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Take the chocolate out and stir it. Return to microwave and heat for another thirty seconds, remove and stir. Continue to heat and stir the chocolate in 30-second intervals until just barely melted.

3) When the milk on the stove starts to get bubbles on the side, turn off the heat and add your melted chocolate, whisking to combine (if you want to add the vanilla extract, do it now). Top with whipped cream, candy canes, or marshmallows, and enjoy!

NOTES: If you want to make more, the general rule of thumb is 1 ½ -2oz of Chocolate for every cup of milk

OTHER MIX-INS: cinnamon, nutmeg, chili powder, pumpkin pie spice, instant coffee

GARNISH: whipped cream, candy canes, marshmallows
